My main fun with the game comes from the different civs. I'm surprised with the amount of negative reviews here (Edit: by now it's become more or less balanced, but initially it wasn't) There wasn't a fight like on the other side of the map or buildings to manage in another place. In Total War Warhammer 2 for instance when I played yesterday, I had to control a ton of armies but I had the ability to pause and plan out stuff beforehand while also just staying in one spot. Even then, I don't play them as much as other games and I end up spending more times on games like Civ or Total War where you have to manage but it isn't really this fast paced have to go around the map type thing.

At least in offline I can kind of take a breather. Age of Empires 2 I like for the solo experience and same with Starcraft 2 but I feel if I ever got into the online experience, it would be pretty stressful for me. If I have to go back and fourth constantly and just click on everything to order them to do something, it gets annoying. Yeah I barely play any that involve me being in more than one place in so little time. What are your thoughts? Do you think Age of Empires IV is here to stay and help bring life back to the RTS genre, or it will flop and be a failed successor? Or somewhere in between, where it will have a low count of very dedicated players and everyone goes back to AoE2 and Starcraft? The lore is interesting, but still seems generic overall. Graphics looks better than other AoE games, but it doesn't run well. Other than the combat and gameplay, AoE4 seems fairly generic to me. The game's core gameplay loop is easy to follow and execute, but I found myself annoyed at the animations, which I suppose is the intent of the game - you take a conscious decision to make yourself vulnerable when issuing new orders to units.Īlthough the combat is enjoyable, something about the small civilization list made me actually miss the large number of civilizations from past Age of Empires games, and there is very little teamplay going on in 2v2. It's been out for awhile and I am enjoying it.
